Karen Hitt is an award winning artist that received her art training at Parson’s School of Design in New York. Her classic background and training are ever evident in her style that is a cross between Impressionistic and Hudson River School Realistic. A love for capturing the figure and the effects of light is the key to all of her scenes; not just an accurate depiction of color, scale or features. Karen’s paintings capture influential daily moments, and the lasting effects these memories play on our hearts and minds throughout our lives. She works in multiple mediums; studio work is largely with acrylics, plein air with oils, and sketches with watercolor, graphite and occasionally pastels. Personal commissions are available.

Hitt returned to Florida from Washington State in 1995, residing since in Venice with her three children. Works by Karen are available locally at the Abbacino Galleria, Venice Art Center, on display at City Hall, Community Center, and Venice Foundation. Her art has been collected by private and corporate collections nationally. They have also been published and distributed nationally in a line of gifts. She is a signature member of Plein Air Florida and founder of the Venice Plein Air group. She is the 2006 recipient of the Muse award in art education from the Sarasota County Art and Cultural Alliance. Karen has taught at the Venice Art Center since 1998 along with many other applications private and in the classroom. She is a major contributor and instructor with multiple art programs for all ages. Classes are now available in subjects from beginner drawing to advanced portrait painting, plus plein air classes through out the year. See Events for more info.
